THE SIDEKICK BUDDYING PROJECT

Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, meet new people and contribute to the local community. However, some people lack the confidence to volunteer, perhaps because they are vulnerable, isolated or have specific needs. Sidekick Buddies provide support across East Devon to such volunteers by accompanying them to their volunteering placement (e.g. a charity shop, a community café, a conservation project), and assisting them in the tasks they are undertaking. The aim is for the Buddy to assist the Supported Volunteer to build up their confidence and skills to the point that the services of the Buddy are no longer needed – i.e. the Volunteer is able to undertake their placement independently.

WHO CAN BE A SUPPORTED VOLUNTEER?

Sidekick is happy to talk to anyone who thinks that they would like to get involved in volunteering, but would like some support to do so. You should be well enough to take part in a volunteering placement once a week and be willing to learn new skills with a view to volunteering independently.
